How to Make Twitter Better
I spend a lot of time on Twitter for a variety of reasons. Being that I work in Search Engine Marketing, it’s pretty important that I stay up-to-date with one aspect of the industry, that being Social Media Networks. I am on Twitter at least 10 hours every day, networking on my profile for Nate Schubert in addition to other clients that want to establish and grow their Twitter presence in quality ways, not just ways that make it LOOK like you are successful on Twitter.
I really do love Twitter, not because I need to know what everyone is doing at all times, but because it allows me to get a feed from people I care about (personal or business), so I know what they’re doing and what they’re writing about. This is extremely important in the SEM field.
There are obviously a lot of improvements that could be made to the ever-changing social media behemoth, but I have just two that would really really make my day.
Let Me Delete ALL Direct Messages in Bulk!
As of this very moment, I have 642 Direct Messages. I click the little trash can icon and then click OK (because I’m sure) to delete them. I could spend days deleting direct messages if I really wanted and I never seem to get ahead. I would absolutely love it if Twitter implemented a feature that would allow me to just check all and delete all of my Direct Messages in one fell swoop. Either that or I’m going to have to stop sending DM’s to those I want to network with. I can tell you right now, the latter is not going to happen.
Down with Shortened URL’s!
I think it’s great that you can take a big long URL and shorten it into a little non-sensical mess of characters, but it still takes up valuable space in an environment where I’m only allowed 140 characters, LESS than that if I want to write something that’s easy to Retweet. I would love Twitter even MORE if they would just allow me to turn existing text into a hyperlink. This would also help in sculpting Twitter pages.
So Twitter, what do you think? Interested in making these two changes? What about the rest of you? Are there any changes to Twitter you’d like to see? What’s most important to you?

I would love it if Twitter had the capabilities to allow bulk removal of DM’s. Both very good ideas.
Nice! I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my blog?
